From doubt to faith
When Møre took the plunge and went online a couple of years ago, editor Tore Aarflot remembers two issues that contributed to his doubts.
- First of all, Aarflot says, local newspapers do not have unlimited resources. How much time does it take to maintain a website? In addition, we feared that our website would affect the sales of our paper edition.
Two years later his doubts have vanished. Subscriber numbers have been stable and his website has proved to be a useful supplement. His fear of the extra workload was also unfounded. OnSite Solutions takes care of the technology, and has developed a series of functionalities for automatic publishing.
- Normally, we publish two to three stories a day. The rest of the content is dynamic, such as webcam, weather, bus and ferry schedules, press releases, reader photographs and events calendar.
The result is a minimum of work for the editorial staff. The website still appears lively and up-to-date.
- We were extremely skeptical before we went online, but we can see that our website has added to our credibility in the region, Aarflot says.
